PG&E’s Visible Subsidy: the CSI Rebate

Six years ago, a statewide program was initiated to encourage the growth of private, grid-tied solar. Early rebates were quite generous, but they were tiered — dropping as more and more homes applied for the rebate. Rebates are gone in PG&E territory, and almost gone elsewhere in California.

The real advantage of installing solar in PG&E territory is not the last of the rebates, but the opportunity to escape paying the expensive portion of your monthly electrical bill.
